Relentless in 2010: Will it be a Successful Year for You?

With the holiday season in full bloom, and the year drawing to a close, it is a great time to shift gears from the grind of daily life and reflect on the many great things that happened over the past year. Whether we give thanks for family, good friends or our successes, the year end  gives us all a sense of closure for the year past and a new birth for the year ahead.

I am so thankful for the many blessings that have come my way in 2009. With the birth of my second child, my son Kian, over a year and a half ago,  the wonderful world of parenthood has continued to enrich my life more than I could have ever imagined. I realize how fortunate I am to be able to spend so much time with my family. This is what drives me in everything I do. I have also had the great fortune to either meet or be in contact with amazing people like you, who have either read this blog, been to an event with me or worked together with me in some capacity. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life.

Be sure to take some time out for yourself and reflect upon all the things you are thankful for, and how you can have even more great experiences doing the things you want with the people you love in 2010.

As many of you know who have been part of this community, every year I create a theme to help define what the next 12 months will bring. A couple of weeks ago I was struggling to write some content for  my upcoming book. After screaming a few profanities out of frustration, subconsciously the word relentless came to my mind. I thought,  ”that’s a great defining word for 2010″ and decided to use it as the theme for the coming year.

Considering the economic climate, advances in technology and all the uncertainty on the planet I believe that being relentless will not only help define who you are and what you want but also remind you to pursue a life worth living for. So every morning when you wake up say to yourself, “I am going to be relentless in my pursuit of ….(fill in the blank – whatever it is you want)”

But why wait 2009 isn’t over yet…What’s wrong with now?

Looking ahead to a New Year, we always seem to put so much emphasis on January 1st and starting anew. Ask yourself, “How many times have I set New Year’s resolutions?” Now ask yourself, “How many times have I actually followed through with those New Year’s intentions?” Be honest. If you’re like most people, the fire tends to die out when you try to transform those great ideas into action. So the question becomes, why do we put so much emphasis on setting New Year’s resolutions, if 90% of the time we don’t stick to them? We all know we are creatures of habit, no matter what day of the year it is. So why not use that to our advantage? Why wait until January 1st? Is there a governing law that states, the way to all the things you want must wait until that ‘magical’ first day in the new calendar year? Start now! Don’t fall into the trap of waiting.

What’s the first step? …

The first step in getting what you want is to make a plan by setting your intentions. Ask yourself, “What do I want and how can I make this happen?” You create your life by living your plan. If you have no plan then how can you live it? If you have no plan you’ll constantly feel that you’re being dragged through the mud by all those other circumstances that you supposedly have no control over. So what’s your plan?

What are you focused on? …

You might be thinking, that’s great but my problem is not the plan, it’s the action. Why don’t most people follow through on their intentions? If Real Estate is all about location, location, location, then following through on your intentions is all about focus, focus, focus. There is so much opportunity in today’s world that it’s hard to know what to focus on. That’s why you need to always keep the big picture in mind. Anytime you feel you’re getting off track and losing focus ask yourself, “Why am I doing this?”. “Does this contribute to what I’m trying to accomplish?” When you ask yourself those two simple questions  you build more awareness around what you’re doing and allow yourself to evaluate how committed to the cause you really are.

How else can you stay focused? A great way is to continuously visualize in your mind’s eye what you want your life to be like. Not just an ordinary life, but your ultimate life. Your mind cannot tell what is real and what isn’t. Don’t believe it? Have you ever woken up in the middle of night scared and sweating? Was the cause real? Why were you sweating? Why was your heart racing? Why did you wake up?

Get that energy and excitement flowing by living your ultimate life in your mind’s eye. Then make it a reality by taking action. Take action in spite of everything and everyone that tells you not to. Take action in such a way that nothing can stop you or even get in your way. Take action like you’ve never taken action before – every time, everywhere and every day.
