Most people trade their time for money, passion for pleasure, and their health for wealth. Yet at the end of the day these people seem to be moving farther away from what they desire the most each and every day that passes.
Does this sound too familiar?
We all want to be, do and have everything that we want and spend as much time as possible around the people who are most important to us.
But is this ideal life really possible?
Can you really have it all?
It depends on how you define what ‘having it all’ really means, doesn’t it?
Unfortunately most people don’t take the time to think about it. They tend to buy things they don’t use with money they don’t have because it’s what everyone else seems to be doing. Or they defer their life and chase the money first thinking that living can only begin once they have the means to pursue their dreams and passions.
Not to say that money isn’t important because it certainly is. In fact it’s one of the four pillars of life discussed in the book. But if you haven’t found or created the core of your being, money alone will be worthless to you.
The subtitle or promise of the book has three parts to it; Work Less, Live More, Grow Rich.
Work Less – The meaning of work has generally carried a negative connotation throughout the centuries with each generation putting their spin on it. This negativity usually referred to something physically hard or labor intensive. While there is no substitute for having a strong work ethic or doing something physically taxing, I believe that working hard is not the only component to achievement or fulfillment.
Most people who are consistently successful at what they do usually spend more time mastering their discipline than the average person. In most cases these achievers do so because they love what they’re doing. They will be the first to tell you that although in many cases it wasn’t easy, they never felt like it was work.
Working less is really about leveraging technological advances and connecting what’s truly most important to you with knowledge and action. By doing so you’ll move from working more to living more.
Live More – Now, more than ever, people are searching for meaning and purpose in their lives. There’s a shift, in large part due to the global economic crisis, towards the importance of creating a life around people and things that matter most. People are starting to realize that self worth is more important than net worth.
Living more is to not merely exist independently and do nothing. It’s about committing, contributing and connecting with people interdependently to create unbelievable experiences and leave a lasting legacy.
Grow Rich – Over the years rich has been mainly associated with affluence and financial wealth. Although important, I believe it’s only part of the equation. True richness is about being able to successfully marry time and money.
Growing is about learning. It’s about being a better person today because of the knowledge and experience you gained from yesterday. The degree of growth and richness you’ll have in your life will be in direct proportion to how much you learned and applied. Learning is a life-long process. The minute you stop, growth stops. And life seizes to exist.
The Ultimate Life book gives you ideas, strategies and asks key questions to gain insight on how you’re life stacks up and what you can do right now to Work Less, Live More, Grow Rich and create The Ultimate Life for yourself.
